BECOMING BONES - CONVERSATIONS WITH THE FUTURE SELF

Beyond the Bones: Choosing Love, Integrity, and Unity in a Divided World

Two images as evidence of the importance of of my message - 1) The first image, a serene illustration of someone sitting peacefully by a lake, holding a leaf and reflecting, captures the beauty of living in the moment. 2)The second image, a picture of me standing next to a skeleton, reminds us starkly of our shared fate: one day, we, too, will be mere bones. The juxtaposition is powerful—a vibrant life next to an inescapable end.

Life is fleeting, yet so many spend it engrossed in pride, hate, and divisiveness. But in the end, our physical selves will return to dust, and what will be left? Not our possessions, anger or prejudices, but rather the essence of who we were—our kindness, integrity, and the impact we had on others. In the grand scheme of time, we may fly away like a forgotten dream, but the ripple effect of love, honesty, and unity can live on far longer.

Our world has seen too much division based on race, culture, or historical grievances. We often see cycles where the colonised become the colonisers, where the oppressed become the oppressors, but these cycles only perpetuate more suffering. It’s an unending loop of retribution and retaliation that doesn’t elevate humanity—it drags it down. We forget that all our skeletons will lie together for eternity. We share more than we think; our differences, though natural, pale compared to the universal truth that we are all human.

This reality offers us a simple yet profound choice: .We have the option to live driven by fear or hatred, or we can embrace love and integrity. The blessings we've received are not for hoarding or flaunting, but for enabling others, for blessing others with those same gifts. The joy of life comes from contributing positively to the world, from lifting others up instead of tearing them down. Each one of us has the power to be a source of light, to live with an open mind, and to make the most of this one life we’ve been given.

So, how will you live today? Will you sow love and unity, or will you let pride and prejudice shape your path? Will you make this world a better place, or will you contribute to the circles of divisiveness that have already caused so much harm? Let us all choose wisely, for tomorrow, we will be no more than skeletons—our bodies gone, but our legacy and impact left behind.

Be a dream, not a nightmare. Leave behind not just bones, but a life that inspired others and left the world better than how you found it. Live with love, integrity, and a commitment to unity—because, in the end, that’s all that will truly matter.
